Prof Greg Cooney

Greg Cooney is a Professorial Research Fellow at the University of Sydney School of Medicine and Charles Perkins Centre. He was previously an NHMRC Research Fellow at the Department of Endocrinology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (1985-1996) and the Garvan Institute (1997-2015). His research interests involve the regulation of energy balance in health and disease with particular focus on dietary influences on the development of obesity and insulin resistance in animal models. In particular, Greg is interested in the contribution of different tissues to whole body glucose and fatty acid metabolism and how this is affected by environmental influences such as circadian rhythms, changes in diet and changes in ambient temperature. Greg is currently on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Physiology – Endocrinology and Metabolism. Greg was a foundation Councilor and Treasurer of the Australia New Zealand Obesity Society and has been as a Councilor, Treasurer and Vice President of the Australian Diabetes Society.
